Converting DS2 to DSS with Olympus Standard

The DSS Standard Player software included with the Olympus DS-2400 is capable of converting the .DS2 format to your choice of industry-standard DSS format, as well as WAV or WMA (Windows Media Audio).

This technical note will show how, with a few mouse-clicks, you can convert downloaded DS2 to files created by the Olympus DS-2400 to another format, that is compatible with transcription systems such as the Start-Stop Universal Transcription system, WAVpedal Universal transcription system or the Olympus AS-2300 and AS-4000 transcriber.

The following example shows how a group of DS2 recordings, that were automatically downloaded from an Olympus DS 2400, can be converted to DSS format using the included DSS Standard Player software.

1. Here you see a group of recordings that have been downloaded to the download tray in DS2 format.
2. Now, you can manually highlight any or all of these files for conversion to DSS. For example, you could type CTRL + A (which is the equivalent of highlight all in Windows), or click on the first file in the list, and then hold down the shift key while clicking the last file in the list, etc.
3. You can now click on File…. Convert Dictation with your mouse, or use the convenient keyboard shortcut of ALT + F followed by “C” to bring up the “Convert File” screen.
4. The “Convert Dictation” screen will appear. If you wish to delete the original DS2 files automatically, click the checkbox that says “After converting a file(s), delete the original files”.
5. Then click the convert button….
6. The files will all convert themselves to Olympus DSS format.
7. It’s done! You now have DSS files created, and replacing the original DS2 files.
