Top 5 Reason You Should Use A Digital Voice Recorder

- Speech Recognition. When using a speech recognition (voice recognition) program such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking or Dragon Dictate Mac you need to have a high quality microphone to record the audio. The microphone in your cellphone or portable device such as iPhone, is not good enough for speech recognition. Because your phone is trying to hear you in many different environment it is capturing a lot of noises that happen in everyday life are interfering with the fidelity of your voice recording. High end digital voice recorders such as the Olympus DS-7000 and the WS-802 not only have very high quality microphones, but have built-in noise canceling technology. They filter out most the noise that reduces your accuracy when using speech recognition. Your cellphone or iPhone is simply not capable of recording the high quality audio that is needed for proper speech recognition.

- Compatibility. Business users who have a lot of their recordings transcribed professionally (by companies who accept the digital recordings and have a team of typists who type up the audio) have to send their recordings in a specific format. Currently the professional audio format preferred for voice recording is DSS PRO format developed by Olympus and Philips. The DSS Pro format has the advantages of small size but also very high-quality recording. It's like an MP3 but doesn't have the losses that an MP3 recording has because its only recording the range of human speech. Professional transcription companies expect the DSS Pro format. All the Olympus and Philips recording in the professional range use this format so that can be easily e-mailed to those companies. If you send them a low quality MP3 or some other format transcription companies are likely to reject the file or charge you twice as much because they can't hear the recording properly.

- Accessories. Olympus and Philips digital voice recorders come in a range of accessories to greatly enhance their usability. For example their conference kits allows you to record and entire room of speakers very cost effectively compared to employing a professional audio company. Also Olympus has a range of clip on and plug-in microphones that can be concealed. You can dram your own conclusion about why this might be useful.

- Ease of use. Modern digital voice recorders are very easy to use. Because they only completing once specific task the user interface – in terms of the buttons and menus is simple to navigate. You could easily stop and start recording without even looking at the device. You can tag recording as you go also you know to come back to that point later on. It's really simple and easy to use these recorders because of their highly focused purpose. When you think about the legal implications of presenting a high-quality voice recording to the courts, you want to make sure that you actually hit the record button and not bumped your iPhone in your pocket and launched a game of angry birds instead of recording! All the Olympus and Philips digital voice recorders have voice activated recording so they won't actually start making a recording until they hear someone speak. That means you can start the recording before even entering a room and won't be wasting any digital storage space until someone speaks.

- Quality. Olympus and Philips have been making digital voice recorders (and other high end digital equipment) for decades. In my many years of selling digital voice recording equipment I have never had a single Olympus digital voice recorder fail because of its design or quality (flushing a digital recorder down to toilet is not constitute a lack of quality on the part of device, less can be said for the user). They are very durable and highly reliable. Again, this comes down to not only very high production standards but because they are a purpose-built device that only complete one critical function. You simply cannot get alternative products of this quality at this price. Olympus and Philips have the professional market hands down in this regard.
